In September 2025 Trump publicly urged Attorney General Bondi to prosecute James Comey, Letitia James and Sen. Adam Schiff. The career prosecutor in eastern Virginia, who had resisted, left; Trump installed his former personal lawyer Lindsey Halligan, who quickly obtained indictments of Comey, for false statements to Congress, and James, for mortgage fraud. Both pleaded not guilty. [1]
On 24 November 2025 Judge Cameron Currie dismissed both indictments because Halligan had not been lawfully appointed. That was not an acquittal. The government appealed, and the Fourth Circuit heard argument on 15 September 2026; no decision had been issued as of this edition. [1][2][3][4]
John Bolton, Trump’s former national security adviser and a fierce critic, was indicted in October 2025 over classified information he shared through personal email and diaries. Unlike the others, he pleaded guilty, to violating the Espionage Act. The Justice Department said he faces up to 60 months and a $2.25 million fine; sentencing is set for 28 October 2026. [5][6]
