A COLLECTION. FULL GUIDES. THEIR RECORD.
The Biden Family Files.
Fifty years of public life, family loss, and money questions. This is a people collection: start with full guides and the biography. Hunter’s prosecutions, Burisma, the laptop, and China business are live deep guides nested here; cover-up of decline is live as a nested deep. Older case pages stay linked as nest gateways while they convert. This page is not a fact-check board. Cover-up of decline is rated on its own spine — separate from whether unelected staff exercised presidential power. Historical 2014–2019 Burisma / prosecutor record only — no current-war framing.

FULL GUIDES INSIDE THIS HUB
Deep dives. Full AI Files topics.
Each full guide is a complete AI Files topic — story-first, with pictures, a critical path and theories rated against it. More Biden Family topics will land here as nest pages are rebuilt. Historical 2014–2019 Burisma / prosecutor record stays on the table; current-war framing does not.
Hunter prosecutions, Burisma, Laptop & the 51, and Five full guides are live (prosecutions, Burisma, laptop, China business, cover-up of decline). Case nest gateways below stay linked while other nests convert. Prefer a FULL GUIDE card whenever one exists. Cover-up of decline is already rated Documented on its own spine — separate from autopen / “running the country.”
CONTEXT BEFORE CONTROVERSY
The story.
Scranton and Wilmington formation; Burisma and the Shokin fight; CEFC-era money and the “big guy” email; the laptop, platforms, and the 51 letter; prosecutions and pardons; the House inquiry and the failed Smirnov tip; Hur, the debate, withdrawal, and decline-cover claims. The background supplies context for the files; it does not decide contested theories. Links open full guides and nest gateways — this hub is a collection gateway, not a deep-guide chapter product.
1972–2026 / WILMINGTON · WASHINGTON
The Biden family
Joe Biden served thirty-six years as a senator, eight as vice president, and four as the 46th president. His son Hunter, his brother James, and other relatives built businesses that traded on the family name; those ventures — Burisma, CEFC-linked wires, laptop material, federal gun and tax cases, an impeachment inquiry, and post-presidency decline/cover-up fights — are the claim spines of this collection. This hub separates contemporaneous records and official documents from viral claims that overreach the evidence. A board seat is not proof the vice president sold policy. Association is not knowledge. Inquiry is not conviction. A pardon is clemency — not a verdict rewrite. The 51 intelligence letter’s “earmarks” language is not a forensic finding that laptop emails were fabricated. Deep guides under Full guides carry chapters and critical paths; nest gateways stay maintained records.
Inauguration fireworks, 20 January 2021 — White House photo / public domain. Family biography context, not a corruption finding.
A family shaped by loss
Joe Biden was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, in 1942 and grew up in Wilmington, Delaware. In November 1972, at twenty-nine, he won a U.S. Senate seat. Five weeks later his first wife, Neilia, and their infant daughter, Naomi, were killed when their car was struck by a tractor-trailer; sons Beau and Hunter survived. He was sworn in beside their hospital beds. That crash is a documented family tragedy. A detail Biden later told about the crash — that the other driver was drunk — is not supported by the contemporary record and is treated in the family-history nest as an unsupported public claim, not as settled fact.[1][2]
He married Jill Jacobs in 1977. He served thirty-six years in the Senate, survived two brain aneurysms in 1988, ran for president in 1988 and 2008, and became Barack Obama’s vice president. Beau Biden — Delaware’s attorney general and an Iraq War National Guard veteran — died of brain cancer in May 2015 at forty-six. Hunter, the younger son, became a lawyer and lobbyist and has written publicly about addiction. Ashley Biden, born in 1981 per Jill’s and independent profiles (an archived White House retrospective says 1980; this hub uses 1981), is the youngest child. Loss and public office are the load-bearing biography spine; they do not decide later money, laptop, or pardon fights.[1][3]
Deep gateways (not rewritten here): family history, Hunter’s life, Jill Biden, Beau and cancer. Association of family tragedy with later business or political claims is narrative adjacency — not proof of those claims. This hub keeps Scranton-to-Wilmington formation separate from Burisma, CEFC, laptop authentication, and clemency files linked below.
Burisma / Ukraine-energy context plate — board seat and payments are documented; “Joe sold policy for a board seat” is a harder, separate claim. See the Burisma full guide.
The vice president’s son
In 2014, while Joe Biden ran point on Ukraine policy for the Obama administration, Hunter Biden joined the board of Burisma Holdings, a Ukrainian gas company whose owner, Mykola Zlochevsky, faced corruption investigations. Burisma paid roughly $83,333 a month to a firm tied to Hunter’s partner Devon Archer, from which Hunter was paid. A State Department official warned that the optics looked like a conflict of interest. Those appointments, payment levels, and the warning are Documented in the public file and mapped in the Burisma deep guide — not invented hub slogans.[4][5]
In 2015–2016 Joe Biden publicly pressed Ukraine to fire prosecutor general Viktor Shokin, tying a billion-dollar loan-guarantee package to anti-corruption conditions the Obama administration and European partners also supported. Critics treat the Shokin firing as protection for Burisma; defenders treat it as mainstream U.S./EU policy. The asked spines stay separate: (1) Did Hunter take a Burisma board seat and payments while his father shaped Ukraine policy? (2) Did Joe Biden condition aid on firing Shokin? (3) Was that pressure done to protect Burisma? Documented answers to (1) and (2) do not automatically prove (3). No CNN-hedge: rate each claim on its own documents.
Epistemology that does not bend here: a board seat is not proof the vice president sold policy. An email mentioning dinner or a call is not freestanding proof of a quid pro quo. Inquiry and committee letters are not convictions. Deep dive: Burisma (full guide) and nest gateway burisma/ — this hub only names the strand. Do not treat this biography block as a clone of that deep guide.[4]
Hunter introduces Joe Biden to Jonathan Li, China, 2013 — White House / public-domain era photo used as chronology context. A meeting is not a CEFC wire; wires are not automatic policy capture.
The money
After Joe left the vice presidency in 2017, Hunter and his uncle James Biden did business with CEFC China Energy and related entities. Subpoenaed bank records show millions moving from CEFC-linked companies into accounts associated with Hunter, James, and other relatives. A May 2017 email proposed equity shares including 10% “for the big guy,” whom former Hunter associate Tony Bobulinski later said meant Joe Biden. Joe has denied knowledge of or participation in those deals. Bank wires and the email text are Documented; whether “the big guy” was Joe, and whether Joe knew of or directed the venture, remain Contested on the public file.[8][10]
House Republican investigators later totaled more than twenty million dollars in foreign-linked payments across several countries into Biden-family-linked accounts over about a decade. That aggregate is a committee calculation from bank records — useful as a ledger of money movement, not by itself a finding that Joe Biden sold official acts. Rosemont Seneca, Owasco, and other vehicles appear in the nested China and bank-records files. Denials are evidence to note; they are not automatic clearance. Same conduct standards apply whether the surname is Biden or not.
Link out, do not clone: China business, “big guy”, bank records, James’s businesses, other foreign deals. Association of relatives with foreign counterparties is not knowledge by Joe of every wire. A proposed equity split is not a signed assignment to a sitting or future president. Deep guides carry the critical path; this hub is the gateway.[8]
Trolley Square / Mac Shop context — chain of custody and authentication live in the laptop deep guides, not in a hub caption.
The laptop
In April 2019 a laptop was left at a Wilmington, Delaware repair shop (The Mac Shop) and not collected. The shop owner, John Paul Mac Isaac, later gave a drive to the FBI and a copy that reached Rudy Giuliani’s lawyer. On 14 October 2020 — three weeks before the presidential election — the New York Post published emails from that material. Twitter blocked links to the story for a time; Facebook reduced distribution. Fifty-one former intelligence officials signed a public letter saying the story had “the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation,” while stating they did not know whether the emails were genuine.[11][13]
Subsequent authentication: the laptop and its data were treated as Hunter Biden’s in federal proceedings; media organizations that initially hesitated later authenticated large portions of the email corpus. Media suppression and the “51 letter” are Documented as speech and platform acts — not as proof the laptop was Russian disinformation, and not as proof every viral claim drawn from the drive is true. Chain-of-custody disputes and selective leaking remain Contested terrain mapped in the nested guides.
Epistemology: a real laptop can still be spun. A suppressed story is not automatically a true story in every particular. The letter’s “earmarks” language is not a forensic finding that the emails were fabricated. Deep dives: laptop, authentication, censorship / platform actions, 51 intelligence letter. This hub does not rebuild those case guides.[11]
Prosecutions context — gun and tax convictions are court outcomes; a pardon is clemency, not a verdict rewrite.
The prosecutions and the pardons
Special counsel David Weiss charged Hunter Biden with gun and tax crimes after a 2023 plea deal collapsed in open court. In 2024 a Delaware jury convicted him of three felony gun counts; he later pleaded guilty to nine tax counts. Two IRS agents (Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler) testified that the investigation had been slowed and constrained — whistleblower testimony that is evidence about process, not by itself a finding that Joe Biden ordered a cover-up. Court dockets and the plea/conviction record are Documented.[14][23]
Joe Biden said repeatedly, including in a June 2024 interview, that he would not pardon his son. On 1 December 2024 he issued a full and unconditional pardon covering Hunter’s federal gun and tax convictions and other potential federal offenses from 1 January 2014 through the pardon date. A pardon is a constitutional clemency fact. It does not erase the documentary spine of emails, bank wires, or board minutes, and it is not a judicial finding of innocence. “Pardon ≠ guilt erased” is the standing epistemology on this hub.
Later family-wide clemency announcements for James, Sara, and other relatives sit in the family-pardons nest as dated executive acts — separate from Hunter’s gun/tax case. Deep dives: Hunter prosecutions, Hunter pardon, family pardons, IRS whistleblowers / investigators. Accused denials and talking points about “weaponization” are noted; they do not decide the court record.[14]
Capitol / oversight context — committee inquiry and reports are not impeachment convictions; a false informant tip is not the whole ledger.
The inquiry
House Republicans opened an impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden in September 2023 and formally authorized it that December. The inquiry’s most explosive early tip — an FBI Form 1023 summarizing a confidential human source’s claim that Burisma paid Joe and Hunter $5 million each — collapsed when the source, Alexander Smirnov, was charged with lying to the FBI and later pleaded guilty. A false informant tip is Documented as false; it does not wipe other bank, email, or testimony spines, and it does not prove every remaining claim.[17][18][24]
The committees’ August 2024 final report said Joe Biden had engaged in impeachable conduct involving influence and obstruction themes. The House never voted to impeach him. An inquiry and a staff/majority report are not a Senate conviction and not a criminal verdict. Hunter’s congressional testimony and related depositions are dated records in the nested inquiry and Hunter-congress nests — testimony is evidence to weigh, not automatic proof of every allegation put to him. Bank-record ledgers and email exhibits entered in the inquiry remain available to rate on their own spines even after the Smirnov tip failed.
No smear pad: do not answer “were there foreign-linked payments to relatives?” by swapping in “was Smirnov’s $5 million claim true?” after that claim failed. Rate each spine on its own documents. Accused denials and partisan talking points on both sides are evidence to note, never the deciding proof that clears or convicts. Deep gateways: influence inquiry, Smirnov / 1023, Hunter’s testimony, what Joe knew. Inquiry ≠ conviction.[17]
Hur / classified-documents context — decline-cover claims are a separate Documented spine in the cover-up deep guide; autopen theories are not the same claim.
The end of the presidency
In February 2024 special counsel Robert Hur declined to charge Joe Biden over classified documents retained from his vice presidency, writing that a jury might see him as “a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.” That charging decision and the memory language are Documented. They are not a medical diagnosis published as fact, and they are not a finding that staff “ran the country” by autopen. Four months later, the 27 June 2024 debate against Donald Trump ended Biden’s viable renomination path; he withdrew on 21 July 2024.[19][20]
After he left office, a House report accused aides of hiding his cognitive decline and questioned use of the autopen. The cover-up-of-decline deep guide rates concealment of decline as Documented on its own asked spine — separate from harder claims that unelected staff exercised presidential powers. No CNN-hedge: “was decline covered up?” is not answered by “did the autopen illegally run the executive branch?” Keep those files distinct. Prostate-cancer and other health headlines after leaving office sit in age-health / cancer nests as dated medical reporting, not as retroactive proof of every 2024 campaign talking point.
Official retrospective with an openly favorable perspective. It gives Ashley’s birth year as 1980; Jill’s official biography and the independent Ashley profile give 1981. This guide uses 1981 and does not adopt every claim in the retrospective.
Republican majority report compiling documents and testimony; its characterizations are investigators’ conclusions, not criminal judgments. This guide uses its documented ethics warnings without adopting every allegation.
Primary transcript, especially pages 24–36, 101–108 and 124–126. Archer describes his recollections and understanding; distinguish what he heard directly from what he inferred.
The U.S. ambassador publicly accuses officials in the Prosecutor General’s Office of undermining a British case that had frozen $23 million of Mykola Zlochevsky’s assets.
Original public discussion in which Biden describes conditioning a loan guarantee on the prosecutor’s removal. His account establishes his stated action, not the motive asserted by later critics.
Payments from Russia, Kazakhstan and Ukraine, including $3.5 million from Yelena Baturina to Rosemont Seneca Thornton in February 2014 and $142,300 from Kenes Rakishev for a car.
Primary transcript, inspected from downloaded PDF. Bobulinski attributes “big guy” to Joe Biden and alleges involvement; those are his claims. The final ownership documents and whether a transaction occurred are separate questions.
Two experts verify about 22,000 of the roughly 129,000 emails on a copy of the drive; most could not be checked either way; signs that others had accessed and handled the data.
Original seven-page statement, including explicit acknowledgement of no evidence of Russian involvement. The authors were former officials speaking publicly, not issuing a current intelligence-community assessment.
Primary prosecutor’s final report, not a neutral court verdict on every family allegation. Cover letter says pardon prevents further charging decisions and report omits uncharged third parties. Primary PDF downloaded; introductory pages and Scarsi’s December 3 order in Appendix C inspected, not every appendix.
Official statement includes the complete operative pardon text. Biden’s claims of selective prosecution are his explanation, not an independent court finding.
Crucial date distinction: actual warrant says January 19, 2025; public announcement was January 20. Covers nonviolent federal offenses beginning January 1, 2014, through warrant date; five named adults only.
Prosecutorial report and charging assessment, not a conviction or clinical diagnosis. Its large PDF may load slowly. The 200-word source-use budget is shared across this chapter.
Sworn congressional testimony is primary evidence of what witnesses said, not a verdict accepting all claims. Dates and institutional actions must be distinguished from inference of White House direction.
Wire reporting of the plea hearing, read with the subsequent judicial order and appellate memorandum. No assertion here that Russian contacts by themselves prove every claim about foreign direction.
RELATIONSHIPS WITH A PAPER TRAIL
Social network analysis.
Named people and organizations with documented ties on the Biden family’s public record. Edges below come from appointments, court and counsel filings, corporate roles, bank and email materials already treated in nested guides, and contemporaneous primary reporting — not from invented seating-chart adjacency. Contested influence claims are labeled Contested. Indictment is not guilt; a pardon is a clemency fact, not a verdict rewrite; association is not knowledge; inquiry is not conviction. Denials are noted; they do not by themselves clear the ledger. Deep narrative stays in the case files linked from Full guides — this hub does not clone Burisma, laptop, China, prosecutions, or cover-up deeps. Historical 2014–2019 Ukraine framing only; no Ukraine-war content.
Spouse · First Lady / educator
Jill Biden
Documented Married Joseph R. Biden Jr. in 1977; long public role as educator and, from 2021–2025, First Lady. Family adjacency and White House ceremonial roles are institutional facts.
Boundary First Lady role and educator career are not a corruption finding and not a substitute for the money, laptop, or pardon spines.
Documented Adult son; Burisma Holdings board member (2014–2019); CEFC-related and other foreign-facing ventures in the public record; federal gun and tax cases culminating in convictions and later presidential clemency.
Contested “Joe directed every deal” — harder claim than board seats, wires, and emails alone establish.
Epistemology Conviction and pardon are institutional outcomes. They do not erase emails, bank wires, or board minutes treated in nested guides. Pardon ≠ guilt erased.
Documented Joseph R. Biden III; Delaware attorney general; Iraq War National Guard service; died of brain cancer in May 2015. Central to family biography and later Hallie Biden narratives.
Boundary Beau’s career and death are not a money-or-influence finding about Hunter’s later ventures.
Daughter
Ashley Biden
Documented Youngest child; public social-work and nonprofit profile; diary/theft episode treated in personal-claims terrain as a separate file from foreign-money spines.
Boundary Her conduct or headlines are not automatically Joe’s or Hunter’s foreign-influence record.
Brother · business ventures
James Biden
Documented Brother; appears on CEFC-linked and other business strands with Hunter in subpoenaed bank and email materials; later named in family clemency announcements.
Association Shared ventures and wires with relatives — not automatic proof Joe knew or directed each deal.
Documented Beau’s widow; later personal relationship with Hunter appears in public reporting and in gun-case factual background.
Boundary Family grief and personal relationships are not foreign-influence findings.
Business partner · Burisma era
Devon Archer
Documented Hunter’s business partner; Burisma-linked firm payments; congressional testimony describing calls and dinners involving Joe as social/relationship facts he observed — not as proof of a policy sale.
Contested How far those social contacts imply knowledge of specific deals or official acts.
Documented Owner of Burisma Holdings; subject of Ukrainian corruption investigations during the board-seat years.
Boundary Owner’s legal troubles ≠ proof that Joe Biden sold the Shokin outcome for Hunter’s board seat. Rate Shokin and Burisma spines separately in the deep guide.
Burisma executive · email
Vadym Pozharskyi
Documented Burisma adviser; “dinner with dad” style emails appear in the laptop corpus and are mapped in the pozharskyi nest / Burisma guide.
Contested Whether a dinner invitation email proves a working influence channel versus social courtesy.
Documented Former Hunter associate on CEFC-related venture; public identification of “the big guy” in a May 2017 email as Joe Biden; turned over devices/materials he says corroborate his account.
Contested Whether Joe Biden knew of or participated in the proposed equity split — Bobulinski’s identification vs Joe’s denials.
Boundary A claimant identification is evidence to weigh, not a court finding. See big guy · China business.
Chinese conglomerate · wires
CEFC China Energy
Documented Source of multimillion-dollar wires into Biden-family-linked accounts after 2017, as shown in subpoenaed bank records cited in nested guides.
Association Corporate counterparty adjacency — not automatic proof of official-act sales by Joe Biden.
Documented Named associate on foreign-facing ventures and bank-record distributions in the public investigative file.
Boundary Associate payments are not by themselves Joe Biden’s knowledge.
Laptop chain · shop
John Paul Mac Isaac · The Mac Shop
Documented Wilmington shop where a laptop was left in April 2019; drive provided to FBI and a copy that reached Giuliani’s counsel — chain-of-custody spine of the laptop file.
Contested Motive narratives and selective-leak claims around how copies moved; authentication of content is a separate Documented track in federal proceedings and later media work.
Documented Public letter saying the New York Post laptop story had “classic earmarks” of a Russian information operation, while disclaiming knowledge of whether emails were genuine.
Boundary “Earmarks” language is not a forensic finding that the emails were fabricated. Later authentication of large portions of the corpus sits in the laptop guides.
Documented 14 Oct 2020 New York Post publication; copy path via Rudy Giuliani’s lawyer from the Mac Shop material.
Boundary Publication and political sponsorship of a leak do not decide authenticity; authenticity and spin are separate ratings in-guide.
FBI CHS · false tip
Alexander Smirnov
Documented Confidential human source behind the Form 1023 $5 million allegation; charged with lying to the FBI; pleaded guilty — tip treated as false.
Boundary A false tip does not erase other bank/email spines and does not prove remaining claims. No smear pad that swaps failed tip for the asked money questions.
Documented 1 Dec 2024 full pardon of Hunter covering gun/tax convictions and a dated federal window; later family clemency announcements for James and other relatives.
Epistemology Pardon ≠ guilt erased. Clemency does not rewrite emails, wires, board minutes, or prior court findings; it ends or blocks federal punishment for covered offenses.
Optional archive of older claim ratings. Prefer Full guides and the biography above. Cover-up of decline is Documented on its own spine; autopen / “running the country” is separate. Unproven is not false. Fact-checkers are sources here, not judges.

HOW TO READ THIS COLLECTION
Follow the evidence. Keep the distinctions.
A question is not a verdict.
Each file takes one question people actually ask about the Bidens and sets out the claim in its strongest honest form before the evidence on each side. Asking is not foolish: some of what the family, officials and the press said at the time turned out to be wrong, and so did some of what their critics said.
Keep the findings distinct.
House committees, two special counsels, federal courts, IRS whistleblowers, inspectors general and reporters answered different questions with different powers. A payment to a relative is not proof of a bribe. A cleared allegation is not proof that nothing improper happened.
Follow the first source.
Bank-record memos, deposition transcripts, indictments, plea papers, court rulings, special-counsel reports and pardon warrants sit beside clearly attributed reporting. Committee reports are read as advocacy by their authors, majority or minority. Read dates and source limits.
Trace the story’s changes.
The timelines show how an email, a laptop or a debate became an investigation, a headline or a wider theory. One proved claim does not validate every related claim; one debunked theory does not excuse a real failure.
Five ratings, plainly applied.
Each claim on the board is rated documented, partly true, disputed, unproven or false. Unproven is not false: it means the public record does not settle it. Ratings follow the evidence wherever it falls, and fact-checkers from across the spectrum are treated as sources, not judges.
What we couldn’t settle.
Sealed grand-jury material, unreleased Archives records, contested memoirs and the open questions about who knew what inside the White House are flagged where they matter. Each article ends with what its sources cannot tell you, and the collection’s AUDIT.md lists what could not be settled.
A dated AI experiment.
Checked through 22 October 2026, within the sources identified in each guide. This is an exploration of AI website creation. AI generates the writing and checks; mistakes can favor or harm any side. No automatic monitoring or updates are implied.
