Did ABSCAM target Black officials?

The claim, the 1988 affidavit behind it and what ABSCAM’s record shows.

RECORD / AT A GLANCE

FALSE FOR ABSCAM; UNPROVEN FOR THE BROADER CLAIM

No Black member of Congress was convicted in ABSCAM, and we found no record that one was approved for a bribe meeting. The broader “Fruehmenschen” allegation, from a 1988 affidavit, concerns later investigations and remains unproven.
