Charlottesville, 2017. Trump said there were “very fine people on both sides.” In the same answer he said, “I’m not talking about the neo-Nazis and the white nationalists, because they should be condemned totally.” So the claim that he called neo-Nazis fine people leaves out his own exclusion. The criticism that survives is that the rally was organized by white nationalists, and he described people who marched alongside them as fine. [1]
Bloodbath, 2024. At an Ohio rally he was talking about Chinese car plants in Mexico and tariffs, then said: “Now, if I don’t get elected, it’s going to be a bloodbath for the whole — that’s gonna be the least of it.” In context he was most plausibly talking about the auto industry and the economy, not calling for violence. Bleach, 2020. After a briefing on disinfectants killing the virus on surfaces, he said: “And then I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in a minute. … Is there a way we can do something like that, by injection inside or almost a cleaning?” He never said to drink bleach. He did float injecting disinfectant, and the next day said he had been sarcastic. [3]
