The Thiel
Files.

Peter Thiel’s public life across payments, venture capital, government software, media litigation, political patronage and late lectures on apocalypse. This is a people collection: start with the biography and social-network analysis on this page, then the full illustrated life-and-power guide. Thirty-six older short case pages remain as honest gateways (full guides pending). This page is not a fact-check board.

FULL GUIDES INSIDE THIS HUB

Deep dives.
Full AI Files topics.

Each full guide is a complete AI Files topic — story-first, with pictures, a critical path and theories rated against it. Later Thiel case guides will land here as short gateways convert; for now the life-and-power guide carries the Frankfurt→Antichrist spine. Related deep work on the Epstein Files lives as its own topic and is linked where the records intersect.

CONTEXT BEFORE THE CASES

Biography.

A continuous public-record biography for Peter Thiel. Conspiracy and scandal case pages nest under this collection; they do not each reprint a full life story. Contested claims stay labeled. Primary and contemporaneous sources lead.

Peter Andreas Thiel

Peter Andreas Thiel was born in Frankfurt, West Germany, on 11 October 1967. His family lived for a period in South West Africa (today Namibia) before settling in Foster City, California. He studied philosophy and then law at Stanford University, where he founded the conservative student newspaper The Stanford Review and later co-authored The Diversity Myth (1995) with David Sacks — a book still cited in campus-culture fights, including over a passage on date-rape politics that critics treat as a separate moral claim from the book’s broader argument.

Biography here records the educational path, the Review, and the book as documented publications and campus activity. It does not treat later online characterizations of his student years as settled fact without primary text.

PayPal and the “PayPal Mafia”

Thiel co-founded Confinity, which merged with Elon Musk’s X.com into the company that became PayPal. He served as CEO in the company’s formative years; board and management fights — including Musk’s ouster from the CEO role in 2000 — are part of the contemporaneous record and later “PayPal Mafia” lore. PayPal’s 2002 IPO and eBay acquisition made early equity holders wealthy; Thiel’s subsequent investing career draws on that exit.

The alumni network label is journalistic shorthand for a real cluster of later founders and investors (Musk, Levchin, Hoffman, Sacks and others). Documented co-founding, employment, and later financings are the edges this collection uses — not seating-chart guilt.

Law, trading desk, and the move into founding

After Stanford Law and a federal appellate clerkship path that did not become a lifelong judicial career, Thiel worked in securities law and then as a derivatives trader in New York before returning to the Bay Area. The Confinity years sit on that return: cryptography-friendly payments, PalmPilot “PayPal” branding, and the merger politics that produced the public company. Biography treats the law-to-trading-to-founder sequence as a documented career arc — useful context for why later essays distrust credentialed institutions — without inventing a single “origin wound” that explains every later bet.

Clarium, macro bets, and Founders Fund discipline

Clarium Capital’s macro fund years (including well-known energy and dollar bets) are part of the public hedge-fund record and of later profiles that describe both gains and drawdowns. Founders Fund, launched with partners from the PayPal cohort and beyond, re-centered Thiel as a venture essayist (“zero to one”) and as a concentrated backer of hard-tech firms. SpaceX appears in that portfolio story as a celebrated check, not as operational control of rockets. When short cases discuss wealth (Roth IRA reporting, Miami real estate), they should not be read as a second biography — the capital formation spine stays here and in the deep guide.

Facebook, Founders Fund, Palantir

In 2004 Thiel led a widely reported early Facebook investment (about $500,000 for a roughly 10% stake in contemporaneous accounts) and joined the board for a period. He founded Clarium Capital and later Founders Fund, which became a major Silicon Valley firm with public bets including SpaceX. In 2003–04 he co-founded Palantir Technologies with Alex Karp, Stephen Cohen and Joe Lonsdale; In-Q-Tel (the CIA’s venture arm) was an early backer. Palantir’s later government contracts — ICE, defense, and foreign public-sector work — are documented in contracting and reporting; claims that the firm runs a single “master database of Americans” are treated as contested theory in the deep guide, not as biography fact.

Ideas: democracy essay, seasteading, Yarvin adjacency

Thiel’s 2009 Cato essay arguing that freedom and democracy had become incompatible is a primary text on his political philosophy. He backed the Seasteading Institute’s exploration of ocean platform governance experiments. Commentators often link him to Curtis Yarvin’s “neoreactionary” writing; documented edges (shared events, reported conversations, mutual citation in press) are thinner than viral “Thiel-verse” graphs imply. This hub lists only edges with a paper trail.

Gawker, outing, Hogan

Valleywag (Gawker Media) outed Thiel in 2007; he later described the episode as formative. He secretly financed Hulk Hogan’s privacy lawsuit against Gawker, revealed after Hogan’s 2016 verdict — a documented litigation-finance fact that bankrupted Gawker Media. Private-life biography after outing includes his later public statements about being gay and his marriage to Matt Danzeisen; those are personal-record facts, not case verdicts.

Trump 2016, Vance/Masters, abroad

Thiel spoke at the 2016 Republican National Convention and was a prominent early Silicon Valley Trump donor. Reporting and FEC records track later support for J.D. Vance and Blake Masters. He obtained New Zealand citizenship (2011 grant, later public controversy over residency expectations) and has been covered for Wanaka property / “bunker” narratives that mix deed facts with speculation. Argentina relocation coverage in the mid-2020s is journalistic reporting, not a completed emigration fact pattern unless primary immigration records say so.

Surveillance adjacency, Epstein file, lectures, 2026

Reporting ties Founders Fund / Thiel network money to Clearview AI and revisits older HBGary / Cambridge Analytica planning documents that named Thiel-adjacent tooling — those are document and investment edges, not proof of operational control of every named program. Epstein-file intersections (calendar/flight/mention patterns where they exist) are handled in a dedicated short case and in the deep guide with epistemology labels; biography does not upgrade adjacency into partnership. Public 2020s lectures on the Antichrist and reported 2026 friction with Trump over Iran policy close the current spine; both are coverage of speech and political alignment, not secret-program proof.
