MAINTAINED RECORD — full deep guide: Biden Family — Cover-up of decline

The presidency

Was Biden’s decline covered up?

Original Sin, the doctor who took the Fifth and the House report

RECORD / AT A GLANCE

Documented

Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson’s Original Sin reports that aides managed a president who was only sharply coherent for limited hours, restricted outside access, and never arranged a cognitive test. His doctor and top aides later took the Fifth before the House. For years much of the press and official messaging treated “he’s sharp” as fact and “he’s in decline” as bad-faith propaganda — until the June 2024 debate and the post-presidency record made that line untenable. Jill Biden’s later account of fearing a stroke on debate night sits on the same record. Whether unelected staff used an autopen or otherwise exercised presidential powers without him is tracked separately in the Autopen / “running the country” file.

“Aides covered up Biden’s decline.”

Original Sin, restricted access, no cognitive test, and the collapse of “he’s fine” messaging show a cover-up of decline; residual dispute is mostly about motive and how early each person knew, not whether the public was misled.

Who says it: Original Sin; House Republicans.
