The 2018 victory party at Safari
Status · documented
She celebrated her primary at the restaurant whose co-owners would later be convicted or plead in the meals fraud.
Safari Restaurant hosted Omar’s August 2018 primary-night celebration and was treated in local reporting as a community political venue. [1][2] Years later, Safari co-owners appear in Feeding Our Future prosecutions. The party date alone does not prove she knew about later fraud. [3][4]
Bottom line. A real, close venue association — not a charging document.
The muted Safari meal video
Status · documented
A 2020 promotional video of Omar at Safari was shown at Salim Said’s trial only muted and untitled so jurors would not be swayed by her presence.
In May 2020 Omar appeared in a Somali-language promotional video filmed at Safari Restaurant promoting pandemic meal distribution and thanking Safari; later reporting and the House committee translate her citing roughly 2,300 family/kids meals a day. [1][2][3][4] At Salim Said’s trial the judge allowed the video only muted/untitled to limit prejudice from Omar’s presence; it is evidence she visited and promoted the site — not that she audited meal counts. [2]
Bottom line. The court’s caution is itself evidence of how politically radioactive the association is — and how carefully guilt must still be proved.
Bock and Salim Said: the verdicts
Status · documented
A federal jury convicted Feeding Our Future’s founder and Safari’s co-owner in March 2025 on wire-fraud and related counts.
A federal jury convicted Aimee Bock and Safari co-owner Salim Said in March 2025 on wire-fraud and related counts after a multi-week trial. [1] On 22 May 2026 Bock was sentenced to 500 months (about 41 years, 8 months). DOJ described Feeding Our Future’s jump from roughly $3.4 million in 2019 to nearly $200 million in 2021 and more than $240 million scheme-wide; MPR reported roughly $243 million restitution. [2][3]
Bottom line. Core FOF convictions are solid.
Steel-man: why critics say she had to know
Status · contested
The strongest honest case that something is wrong does not require inventing a charging document — it stacks Safari, donors, Guhaad, and Bock emails.
Venue + meal video + Safari convictions are an unusually tight geographic/political association. [1][6] Donors later charged gave max-ish federal checks in the fraud window. [2]
Bottom line. Best case for suspicion ≠ proof beyond reasonable doubt.
The cluster, compressed
Status · mixed
Convicted: Bock, Salim Said, Guhaad, Abdulkadir Salah, Abdi Salah (Frey), donor-defendants. Linked: Safari venue/video, $7,400, Bock email titles, media campaign-role claim. Not shown: Omar knowledge or FOF charge.
See critical path steps 2–3, 8, 10–13, 16. [1][2][3][4]
Bottom line. Dense and still uncharged on knowledge.
Said is a common surname — disambiguate
Status · reported
Salim Said, Guhaad Hashi Said, and Abdulkadir Nur Salah are distinct people in the FOF docket. Shared clan/surname patterns in Somali naming are not proof of a single family conspiracy with Omar.
DOJ releases treat them as separate defendants with separate conduct. [1][2][3]
Bottom line. Disambiguation hygiene.
