Did Lyndon Johnson do it?

RECORD / AT A GLANCE

Unproven; fingerprint claim checked and rejected by the FBI

Documented that Johnson was in Houston and Fort Worth, not Dallas, on the night of 21 November, and that he became president within hours. Unproven that he had any role in the assassination; no investigation found evidence of it. False that a Depository fingerprint matched Mac Wallace: one examiner withdrew his confirmation, and the FBI concluded the print was not Wallace’s.

OPEN THE RECORD

Sources & limits.

Numbered citations in each article identify the relevant sources. These records have different purposes and evidentiary weight.

  1. Gallup: “Majority in U.S. still believe JFK killed in a conspiracy,” 15 November 2013 ↗

    The 50th-anniversary reading.

  2. Washington Times: review of Roger Stone’s The Man Who Killed Kennedy: The Case Against LBJ, 25 February 2014 ↗

Hugh Aynesworth, a Dallas reporter at the scene in 1963, finds the book entertaining but built on unreliable witnesses. Blocks scripted fetches; confirmed by search.

  3. Rolling Stone: “The Last Confessions of E. Howard Hunt,” 2007 (archived copy) ↗

St. John Hunt’s account of his father’s notes and tape.

  4. HSCA final report, part I-C: conspiracy findings ↗

Soviet, Cuban, anti-Castro, organized-crime and agency allegations, one by one.

  5. Vice President Johnson’s daily diary, 21 November 1963 (LBJ Library) ↗

Places Johnson in San Antonio, Houston and then Fort Worth that night.

  6. Nathan Darby affidavit on a “Mac Wallace” fingerprint, 1998 (as posted by a proponent) ↗

His 9 March 1998 affidavit claims two matches between Wallace’s prints and a Depository print; examined from copies, not the original card.

  7. Lobster magazine: “Two stories about JFK fingerprints,” 2015 ↗

FOIA file: the FBI’s 15 March 1999 report that the latent print “is not a fingerprint of Malcolm Everett Wallace,” and examiner Harold Hoffmeister’s April 1998 letter withdrawing his confirming affidavit.

  8. Warren Commission report, chapter 1: summary and conclusions ↗

The Commission’s own conclusions: three shots from the sixth-floor window, the single-bullet finding described as “very persuasive”, Oswald as the killer of Kennedy and Tippit, Ruby acting alone, no conspiracy found.
