Courtney Wild, abused by Epstein from the age of 14 and now public by choice, was the lead plaintiff in the case over the 2008 non-prosecution agreement. In 2019 Judge Kenneth Marra ruled that prosecutors had violated the Crime Victims’ Rights Act by keeping the deal secret from victims. [1]
In April 2021 the full Eleventh Circuit ruled, 7–4, that the act gave victims no right to sue before any charge had been filed, ending the case. Dissenting judges warned the ruling left victims of secret deals without recourse. A reform bill named after Wild was introduced in 2022 and did not pass. [2][3]
