The interview

Pizza Express, sweating and a 2011 email.

In November 2019 Andrew told BBC Newsnight he had “no recollection” of Giuffre, said that on the night she described he had taken his daughter to a Pizza Express in Woking, and disputed her memory of him sweating because, he said, he could not sweat at the time. He said he had broken off contact after a December 2010 visit. The interview was widely seen as a disaster; four days later he stepped back from royal duties. [1][2]

In October 2025 British papers published his email to Epstein of 28 February 2011, sent the day after the photograph appeared: “It would seem we are in this together and will have to rise above it. Otherwise keep in close touch and we’ll play some more soon!!!!” [3]

What we can’t tell you. The email contradicts his claim to have cut contact; it does not by itself prove Giuffre’s account.

The settlement and the titles

He paid; he did not admit.

Giuffre sued him in New York in 2021 alleging sexual abuse when she was 17. Weeks before he would have been questioned under oath, he settled. The court filing said he never meant to malign her character, made a donation to her charity and admitted no liability. The amount was not disclosed. [1][2]

After the 2011 email and her memoir, King Charles began removing his titles and honours and his lease on Royal Lodge in October 2025. [3][4]

What we can’t tell you. A civil settlement is not an admission or a verdict.

The arrest

A different allegation: leaking to Epstein.

The 2026 U.S. files included emails suggesting that while he was Britain’s special representative for trade, Andrew forwarded official reports to Epstein. Thames Valley Police arrested him on 19 February 2026 on suspicion of misconduct in public office, searched properties and released him under investigation. The UK government later released files on his envoy role. [1][2][3][4]

In October 2026 the High Court quashed the search warrants after police accepted they used the wrong legal procedure; the seized material was retained pending a hearing in 2027. Reports say the case has been slowed by lack of unredacted U.S. records. He denies wrongdoing and has not been charged. This is a live case and could change. [5][6]

What we can’t tell you. Misconduct in public office is a hard charge to prove; no charging decision had been announced.
