Pizza, code words and Pizzagate

Did the files vindicate the 2016 theory? What the “pizza” documents really say

The viral examples, checked

One by one.

Snopes reviewed the most-shared items. “U9 Red” was the name of a children’s soccer team in a family’s scheduling emails. “Pizza and grape soda” came from a doctor’s chat about food. A pizzeria website tied to St. Thomas was re-registered on 1 February 2026 by someone making a joke. Most of the 800-plus hits are ordinary meals and receipts. [1][2]

Searchers also found many words that sound sinister in isolation. Context resolves nearly all of them. The cases that remain unclear are unclear because of redactions, not because a code has been shown. [1][3]

What we can’t tell you. Some documents are heavily redacted; that leaves gaps, not proof.

Why it feels vindicated

The strongest case, and where it stops.

People who believed Pizzagate were told in 2016 that powerful people abusing children was a fantasy. Then a well-connected financier was shown to have abused dozens of girls, given a lenient deal and protected for years, with presidents, princes and billionaires in his address book. Believers say they were right about the shape of the thing. That feeling is understandable and partly fair: elite abuse with elite protection is documented in the 2007 deal and the Maxwell trial. [1]

Where it stops: the specific claims, a food code, the Washington pizzeria and a ring of named Democrats, are not in the files. Mixing the two hurts survivors, whose real evidence gets buried under invented details. [2]

What we can’t tell you. Unreleased material could show more about who knew; it has not shown a code.
