The evidence

Why the body was his.

FactCheck.org found the 2019 “not him” posts rested on low-resolution photos and guesses about ears and noses. The body was identified, autopsied by the New York City medical examiner and observed by Dr Michael Baden on behalf of Epstein’s brother. Baden argued that the injuries pointed to homicide, which is a reason the family believed he was killed, not that he escaped. The Inspector General’s report traced his last hours in the jail. [1][2][3]

The steelman for doubt is the jail itself: if guards could falsify logs and cameras could fail, people ask what else could. That is a fair question about the jail. It does not supply a living Epstein.

What we can’t tell you. Theories about his death are weighed in the murder theory.

The Tel Aviv image

A fake built for virality.

The 2026 image of Epstein on a Tel Aviv street was traced by PolitiFact, Reuters and AFP to AI generation: it carries an AI tool’s mark, the street signs are malformed, and the earliest copies appear on a forum for AI images. It spread partly because it fit a theory about Israeli intelligence. [1][2][3]

It was one of many: DW catalogued AI images passed off as file photographs of politicians and celebrities with Epstein. See fakes and forgeries. [4]

What we can’t tell you. Fact-checks can only say what a picture is not; here they show it was generated.
