The settlement

$72.5 million, no admission.

Survivors alleged that Bank of America processed payments that kept Epstein’s operation running, including large wires from Leon Black. The bank agreed to pay $72.5 million to a class covering abuse from June 2008 to July 2019; Judge Jed Rakoff approved it in August 2026. The bank denied facilitating trafficking. Wyden said Black paid Epstein more than $170 million, often in wires of $10 million to $20 million. [1][2]

What we can’t tell you. Wyden’s figures come from his committee’s minority staff.

The DEA memo

An investigation with no ending.

A 2015 memo from a DEA-led task force, released in the 2026 files, lists Epstein among 15 subjects of an inquiry into suspicious wires in the Virgin Islands and New York linked to possible drug trafficking and prostitution. No charges followed and the government has not said what was found. Wyden says the Justice Department blocked the DEA from answering his questions; the department has not publicly explained. [1][2][3]

For people who believe Epstein’s fortune hid something larger, this is a real document, not a rumor. It shows an agency was looking. It does not show what it found. [1]

What we can’t tell you. A target list in a memo is not evidence of guilt.
