The lawyer

His part in the deal.

Dershowitz joined Epstein’s defense in 2006 and was part of the team that negotiated with federal prosecutors in Miami, which produced the 2007 agreement criticized as a sweetheart deal. He has defended the agreement as the result of hard bargaining. He was also Epstein’s friend, stayed at his homes and has acknowledged getting a massage at the Palm Beach house from an older woman, saying he kept his underwear on. [1][2]

What we can’t tell you. Defending a client is not wrongdoing; the deal is covered in its own file.

The accusation and its end

What happened in court.

In December 2014 Giuffre alleged in a court filing that she had been trafficked to Dershowitz. In April 2015 Judge Marra struck the allegations from that case because they were not relevant to it, without deciding whether they were true. Years of defamation litigation followed. [1][2]

In November 2022 the parties filed an agreed statement: Giuffre said she “may have made a mistake” in identifying him, both sides dropped their claims, and no money was paid. Dershowitz, who always denied the accusation, has long said travel records show he could not have been where she said. [3][4][5]

What we can’t tell you. An agreed statement ending litigation is not a court finding; it is the accuser’s own retreat.
