Certified result established

Bush became the lawful winner of the Electoral College. That fact does not answer every question about uncounted votes or the fairness of the process.

OPEN THE RECORD

Sources & limits.

Numbered citations in each article identify the relevant sources. These records have different purposes and evidentiary weight.

  1. Federal Election Commission — Official 2000 presidential results by state ↗

Official compilation of state-certified returns, not a reconstruction of every intended vote. Florida is on printed pages 4–5 of this PDF. The totals count recorded candidate votes; they do not certify that every voter encountered an equally reliable process.

  2. GAO — Election activities and challenges, GAO-02-3 (2001) ↗

Federal review of registration, absentee voting, polling-place operations and counting. It describes administrative systems, not a judicial ruling on who should have become president.

  3. White House historical archive — George W. Bush biography ↗

Historical presidential biography, frozen in an archived White House site, originally credited to the White House Historical Association. Used only for the national popular-vote margin, not as a neutral assessment of Bush’s whole presidency.

  4. National Archives — 2000 Electoral College results ↗

Official electoral-vote record. Distinguishes 267 electors pledged to Gore from the 266 presidential votes actually cast for him, because one D.C. elector abstained.
