The AI Files · Donald Trump’s family crypto ventures, memecoins, and ethics conflicts (2024–2026) · 2024–2026

Crypto and the presidency

The same president who once called bitcoin a scam disclosed hundreds of millions in memecoin royalties and World Liberty proceeds in his first year back. Buyers got a dinner. A major investor’s SEC case settled. A crypto exchange founder got a pardon. The income is on the form. A purchased decision is not.

This guide is the Trump crypto-conflicts spine under The Trump Files. Broader clemency and emoluments nests stay separate — we point, we do not rebuild.

Chapter 1

The scam reel

Before any token ticker, there was a voice clip: Donald Trump calling bitcoin a scam and a menace to the dollar. [1][2] Critics kept the reel. He would need it less than they would.

Chapter 2

The embrace

By 2024 the same politician promised to make America the crypto capital of the planet. [3][4] The pivot was a campaign fact before it was a balance-sheet fact.

Chapter 3

World Liberty takes the stage

On 16 September 2024, World Liberty Financial launched on an X Spaces stage — Witkoff telling the origin story, sons branded as ambassadors, a WLFI allotment split read aloud. [5][6][7] Family crypto was no longer a rumor.

Chapter 4

Compensation without “ownership”

Launch coverage captured the lawyers’ tense sentence: the family would be compensated, yet the platform was “not owned, managed, operated or sold” by them. [6] Economic interest and legal form started their long argument.

Chapter 5

$TRUMP, three days early

17 January 2025 — a memecoin with the President-elect’s name. [8] Project disclosures put about eighty percent of the supply with CIC Digital and Fight Fight Fight. [9][10] Retail bought the float the insiders still held.

Chapter 6

Melania’s ticker

Two days later, $MELANIA. [11] OGE would soon treat both coins as the ethics questions Congress asked. [12]

Chapter 7

Inauguration math

As he took the oath, the coin’s market cap went vertical, then sickeningly down. [11][10] Reuters’s ethics story landed the same day: conflict, foreign money, structural risk. [13]

Chapter 8

What the law will not do

Warren and Auchincloss asked OGE what rules bind a president who sells coins. The answer was bracingly clear: the primary conflict statute does not. [12][14] Disclosure and the STOCK Act still do. Melania is not an executive employee. Oversight lives in Congress and with voters. [15][16]

Chapter 9

Fees before the entrée

By spring, AP was citing Chainalysis estimates that creator fees already topped three hundred million dollars. [17][18] The dinner invitation was not a charity gala RSVP; it was a leaderboard.

Chapter 10

Dinner at the club

22 May 2025 — top holders at Trump National Golf Club in Virginia, VIP reception for the top twenty-five, Marine One on the lawn, Justin Sun in a tux, protesters at the fence: *America is not for sale.* [19][17][20] Access had a token price.

Chapter 11

Sun’s second check

Oversight Democrats placed Sun among the largest $TRUMP holders and as a roughly seventy-five-million-dollar World Liberty investor while his 2023 SEC fraud case still lived. [21][22] Sequence is not yet a contract — but it is why the next two chapters refuse to stay boring.

Chapter 12

Pardon for CZ

23 October 2025 — Changpeng Zhao, Binance’s founder, pardoned after an AML guilty plea and a four-month sentence. [23][24] The White House called it the end of a war on crypto. [25] House Democrats had already been asking about USD1 and Binance. [26][27]

5 March 2026 — SEC Litigation Release 26496: Rainberry pays a ten-million-dollar civil penalty for wash-trading claims; remaining claims against Sun’s cohort are dismissed; no admission. [29][30] Blumenthal asks whether someone upstairs told Enforcement to stand down. [22]

The PDF that would not fit in a headline

30 June 2026 — a certified disclosure measured in hundreds of pages. Celebration Coins royalties: about six hundred thirty-five million. World Liberty token sales and equity lines in the hundreds of millions more. Wires tallied roughly one point four billion in crypto-related categories. [31][32][33] Melania’s NFT/collectibles license sat on its own line. [34]

Chapter 16

Trump shrugged that everyone was winning with the market. [35] The White House denied a conflict and repeated the crypto-capital line. [36] Neither released the dinner’s full guest list. [19]

Chapter 18

What it still does not prove

Income documented. Access documented. A purchased official act — still unproven in the public record. [37][38] That is not absolution. It is the difference between a conflict you can show and a bribe you still have to find.

Chapter 20

The maintained record

This deep guide replaces the thin case as the maintained Trump-hub record for crypto conflicts. Sibling nests still hold wider clemency and emoluments. [39][40][41] When new bank records or SEC productions arrive, the yardstick — not the outrage — decides whether step sixteen moves.

Hardens after Sun’s investments, the holders’ dinner, the Zhao pardon, and the March 2026 SEC settlement.[1][3][4]

Why it lives

Lives because the sequences are public and the guest list is not.

How it squares with the record

The timeline of money → access → favorable outcomes is real. [1][6][4][7]

What is missing is the agreement that turns correlation into bribery. [5]

Political dinners sold through campaigns/PACs with clearer donor IDs.

After

Token leaderboards can gate presidential face-time with pseudonymous wallets.

The evidence it changed
  • May 22 dinner rules tied seats to holdings.[11][8]

Income vs profit literacy

Before

Headline dollars treated as cash in pocket.

After

More readers (still not enough) separate royalties, proceeds, fees, and net profit.

The evidence it changed
  • Thin nest and disclosure explainers hammer the distinction.[12][4]

How this guide works

Sources and method

Facts are drawn from the OGE annual disclosure PDF, OGE’s Warren/Auchincloss letter, SEC litigation releases and whistleblower notices, DOJ clemency lists, Congressional oversight letters, and named wire investigations (Reuters, AP, CNBC, BBC, CNN). White House statements are labeled advocacy. Third-party AI encyclopedias including Grokipedia are never sources.

Entity income, token market value, creator fees, and personal net profit are different tallies — we keep them apart.

Ukraine-war content is out of scope.

‘Our Take’ style bottom lines are labeled assessments, not official findings. Sequences can be documented without proving a quid pro quo.
