Louis Jolyon West, a psychiatrist whose CIA-funded research O’Neill documented through correspondence, spent time in the Haight in 1967 studying hippies. Manson was there at the same time, at the same free clinic, giving young followers LSD. A federal program, CHAOS, was spying on the counterculture. O’Neill argues that the coincidences, and the gaps in the official record, deserve answers. [1][2][3]
