Were the fires set to remake L.A.?

No. The land-grab and “smart city” theories have no evidence behind them.

After the fires, posts claimed they were set to clear land for “15-minute cities,” U.N. Agenda 2030 projects or Olympic venues. PolitiFact and AFP found no evidence; the Olympic plan uses existing and temporary venues. [1] [2] [3]

One man is charged with starting the fire that became the Palisades, and he has pleaded not guilty. [5] The water and budget failures are real; they are failures, not a plot. [4]

Was L.A. fire equipment sent to Ukraine?

The county, not the city, donated surplus gear in 2022. It did not cause January’s shortages.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department — a separate agency from the city’s LAFD — donated surplus and retired hoses, helmets and protective gear to Ukrainian first responders in 2022. [1] [3]

Fact-checkers found no link between that donation and the city’s problems on January 7, which were staffing, pre-deployment and out-of-service engines. [2] [3]

Source limits. The county’s account covers its own donation only.
