The critical path
A critical path is the load-bearing chain any serious reading of the laptop fight must handle — the April 2019 drop-off, December 2019 FBI custody, Giuliani copies, the Post story, Twitter/Facebook limits, the fifty-one letter, debate citation, travel/DKIM/CBS authentication, the June 2024 trial exhibit, Zuckerberg’s letter, and later FBI-chat oversight. Each card separates authenticity from suppression from letter politics .

In the narrativeChapter 3 — federal custody begins.
Why critical — if this fallsIf the Bureau never held a genuine Hunter device, October 2020 ‘Russian forgery’ talk has an easier path; with custody, that path must explain the evidence room.

April 2019 MacBook left at Mac Shop.
In April 2019 a MacBook Pro was left for data recovery at John Paul Mac Isaac’s shop in Wilmington and not collected. [1][2]
Shop-owner identity claims are interested testimony; they sit beside later FBI and trial authentication, not instead of them.
The shop is the origin myth everyone argues about — treat Mac Isaac as a named witness with a lawsuit trail, then require the FBI and trial path to corroborate the object, not the other way around. [1][3]

Federal custody months before the Post story.
FBI agents served a subpoena and took the laptop and a hard drive on 9 December 2019. [1][2]
That date undercuts later public talk that treated the drive as a possible foreign plant with no federal path.
Months of federal custody before Election Day matter for memory: voters were told to treat the drive as a possible foreign plant while agents already held a machine later matched to Hunter’s Apple account. [2][3]

Sibling deep pointer.
The Post’s featured email sits in older Burisma business context covered on the Burisma sibling deep — this file does not rebuild Ukraine-war content. [1][2]

Reduced distribution; later admitted mistake.
Facebook reduced distribution while fact-checking. Mark Zuckerberg’s 26 August 2024 letter said Facebook should not have demoted the story based on FBI warnings. [1]
Corporate admission locks the suppression claim without proving a typed FBI kill order for the URL.

Classic Russian earmarks — with hedges.
On 19 October 2020 fifty-one former intelligence officials published a statement saying the Post story had classic earmarks of a Russian information operation, while saying they did not know if the emails were genuine. [1]
The earmarks suggestion was wrong about core-data authenticity later established in forensics and court. Read the hedges; cable often erased them.
House reports (2023–2024) argue campaign exploitation of credentials; read them as oversight findings beside the letter PDF, not instead of it. [2][1]

How to read without CNN-hedge.
Authenticity, suppression, and the letter share October 2020 but are not one blob with one rating. [1][2][3]
If a reply changes the claim, open a new line.
Classroom card: write authenticity / suppression / letter at the top of three columns. Fill each column only with primaries that answer that column’s question. [1][2][3]
