Chapter 1: How to read this file

This nest asks what Hunter Biden was paid to do on Burisma’s board — and what the contemporaneous U.S. record said about conflict of interest. Lead with appointment announcements, payment tallies from Senate investigators and laptop finance reviews, State Department warnings (George Kent), and Devon Archer’s testimony about “the brand.”
Primaries: Hunter deposition; Archer transcript; Senate Republican staff report documents; Ambassador Pyatt’s 2015 Odesa remarks; Kent testimony; contemporaneous Joe Biden public statements.
Hard stops: this is not a Ukraine-war guide. Historical 2014–2019 business and impeachment-era framing only. Shokin firing motive has its own adjacent nest — do not collapse every Ukraine claim into Burisma pay.
Epistemology: indictment≠guilt; board seat≠bribe proven; adjacency≠authorship of U.S. policy. Steel-man both ‘influence-for-hire’ and ‘legal but ugly optics’ paths with mustBeWrong.
No CNN-hedge: rate the asked claim (pay/role/conflict warning) on its own spine. Do not answer ‘was he paid a lot with no energy experience?’ by swapping in ‘did Joe take a Burisma check?’
Sibling deeps: laptop-51, China business, cover-up of decline — separate files. HubChild under Biden Family; nest gateway stays at /files/people/biden-family/burisma/. Prefer Hunter/Archer transcripts, Senate document tallies, and Kent’s warning over cable slogans.
Chapter 2: Appointment

In spring 2014, after Yanukovych fled and Russia seized Crimea, Burisma owner Mykola Zlochevsky recruited Western board names: former Polish president Aleksander Kwaśniewski, Devon Archer, then Hunter Biden. The company announced Hunter’s appointment in May 2014.
Hunter had no Ukrainian gas-industry résumé. That gap is documented in his own later testimony and in contemporaneous skepticism inside U.S. diplomacy.
Context of war risk and energy politics explains why a gas company wanted Western cover — it does not erase the conflict-of-interest optics of the vice president’s son joining while Joe Biden led Ukraine policy for the Obama administration.
Must-be-wrong for ‘Hunter never sat on the board’: the company’s announcement and years of board tenure.
Must-be-wrong for ‘appointment alone proves a crime’: appointment is fact; quid pro quo is a separate claim needing separate instruments.
Classroom: print the May announcement next to Hunter’s later description of his duties. Prefer Hunter/Archer transcripts, Senate document tallies, and Kent’s warning over cable slogans.
Chapter 3: The company and the owner

Burisma was (and is described in contemporaneous coverage as) a major private Ukrainian gas producer. Zlochevsky had been ecology minister under Yanukovych. British authorities froze about $23 million tied to him in a money-laundering probe in 2014; a London court later released funds after Ukrainian prosecutors failed to support the case — a fact U.S. Ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt publicly criticized in September 2015.
Owner trouble is why ‘protection’ and ‘brand’ talk later matter. It is not, by itself, proof Hunter fixed any case.
Keep GRU phishing against Burisma (late 2019) labeled as a later security report — interesting, not a substitute for board-pay primaries.
Gas imagery marks the industry object of the board seat — not a war montage.
When popular claims skip to ‘Burisma = Biden crime family,’ demand the payment and warning documents first.
Link forward: Shokin nest for prosecutor-removal claims; this chapter stays on company/owner spine. Prefer Hunter/Archer transcripts, Senate document tallies, and Kent’s warning over cable slogans.
Chapter 4: The money

Senate Republican investigators counted repeated $83,333.33 monthly payments from Burisma to Rosemont Seneca Bohai (Archer-tied), from which Hunter was paid. Hunter later put his own average near ~$65,000 a month over about five years. NBC’s laptop-finance review placed Hunter/company intake near $11 million (2013–2018) from Burisma plus a Chinese firm combined — cite the split carefully.
‘$50,000 a month’ is a common rounding; the documented fee line is $83,333.33 to the firm entity. Rate the popular figure PARTLY TRUE when exactness matters.
Energy-industry imagery stands for the sector Hunter was paid to advise without sector experience.
Must-be-wrong for ‘he was unpaid / symbolic only’: the payment tallies.
Must-be-wrong for ‘every dollar was a Joe Biden wire’: entity routing and who received what need bank/primary care — do not invent.
Money chapter refuses both denial and cartoon vaults of cash. Prefer Hunter/Archer transcripts, Senate document tallies, and Kent’s warning over cable slogans.
Chapter 5: State Department warning

George Kent, a senior State Department official on the Ukraine file, testified he raised Hunter’s Burisma role with the vice president’s office in 2015 as a conflict-of-interest perception problem that complicated U.S. anti-corruption messaging. Senate Republican staffers later argued the concerns were not acted on.
State Department building imagery marks the institutional warning channel — not a meme about ‘deep state.’
A contemporaneous ethics warning is a primary even when no criminal charge followed. Do not erase it to protect a narrative; do not inflate it into a conviction.
Joe Biden’s later public lines — ‘never spoken to my son about overseas business’ (2019) and ‘he did not do a single thing wrong’ — sit beside Archer’s speakerphone/social-call testimony. Readers compare; this guide does not launder either.
Must-be-wrong for ‘nobody in government flagged it’: Kent.
Must-be-wrong for ‘Kent proved a bribery scheme’: he described conflict perception and messaging harm. Prefer Hunter/Archer transcripts, Senate document tallies, and Kent’s warning over cable slogans.
Chapter 6: The brand

Devon Archer told House Oversight (July 2023) that Burisma would have survived without the Biden name, but that “the brand” helped. He described Hunter as part of a wider effort to give the company Washington protection value. He also said Joe was never in the business deals and that roughly twenty speakerphone appearances over a decade were social niceties, not deal-making.
Capitol imagery marks the Washington value proposition Archer described.
FactCheck.org and similar secondaries argue Republicans oversold Archer — useful as a transcript-comparison aid, not as a substitute for reading Archer.
Steel-man influence-for-hire: payments + brand + call-D.C. ask. Steel-man ugly-but-not-criminal: legal board work + optics failure + no proven policy sale. Both owe documents.
Must-be-wrong for ‘Archer said Joe negotiated Burisma contracts’: that is not his testimony.
Must-be-wrong for ‘Archer said the name was worthless’: he said it helped. Prefer Hunter/Archer transcripts, Senate document tallies, and Kent’s warning over cable slogans.
Chapter 7: Call D.C.

Archer described a December 2015 Dubai board meeting where Zlochevsky and Vadym Pozharskyi asked Hunter for help with pressure on the company; Hunter stepped away to “call D.C.” Archer did not hear the call and said no one told him it was to the vice president.
Oversight imagery marks the transcript venue where this entered the U.S. public record.
Separate claims: (1) executives asked for D.C. help — Archer’s testimony; (2) a call reached Joe and changed a case — not established by Archer’s account alone.
Pozharskyi’s later email thanking Hunter for arranging a meeting with Joe (April 2015 dinner claim) is an adjacent document fight — authenticate and date carefully; do not treat a contested email as a guilty plea.
No lean: quote the ask, the limits of Archer’s knowledge, and what would falsify a stronger claim.
Classroom: two columns — ‘documented ask’ vs ‘inferred presidential intervention.’ Prefer Hunter/Archer transcripts, Senate document tallies, and Kent’s warning over cable slogans.
Chapter 8: Shokin adjacency

Joe Biden later boasted that he tied a $1 billion loan guarantee to firing Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin — ‘son of a bitch, he got fired.’ Shokin claims he was removed because he pursued Burisma. Western governments, the IMF, and Ukrainian reformers publicly wanted Shokin out for failing to prosecute corruption, including stalled Burisma-related matters.
Hearing-room imagery marks the public-policy theater of anti-corruption conditionality.
This chapter labels adjacency: Burisma pay and Shokin removal share a country and a season; they are not automatically one bribery proof. The dedicated Shokin nest carries the fuller prosecutor timeline.
Ukrainian police later closed a case tied to Shokin’s complaint for lack of a crime (court upheld) — part of the motive dispute record.
Must-be-wrong for ‘Biden never pressured Ukraine on the prosecutor’: his own boast.
Must-be-wrong for ‘boast alone proves Burisma protection’: conditionality had a multinational chorus. Prefer Hunter/Archer transcripts, Senate document tallies, and Kent’s warning over cable slogans.
Chapter 9: Joe’s lines

September 2019: Joe said he had never spoken to his son about overseas business. October 2019: he said Hunter did nothing wrong on Burisma. Those lines sit next to Kent’s 2015 warning, Archer’s brand and speakerphone accounts, and the payment tallies.
Portrait imagery marks the political principal whose words became part of the evidence table — not a character assassination plate.
Readers can hold: (a) no public record of a Joe-Burisma paycheck; (b) serious conflict optics the State Department flagged; (c) contested inferences about policy. Collapsing (a)–(c) into one slogan is the defect this file refuses.
Impeachment-era politics (2019) weaponized these facts; weaponization does not erase the documents, and documents do not automatically validate every campaign claim.
Must-be-wrong for ‘Joe was on Burisma’s payroll’: no such record in the spine used here.
Must-be-wrong for ‘Joe’s denials erase Kent/Archer’: denials are statements, not erasers. Prefer Hunter/Archer transcripts, Senate document tallies, and Kent’s warning over cable slogans.
Chapter 10: Rival paths

Path Influence-for-hire: Burisma bought the Biden name for protection; payments and call-D.C. ask are the tell. Must-be-wrong for pure-coincidence: Kent warning + brand testimony + pay scale.
Path Ugly-but-legal optics: board work and nepotistic branding without a proven policy sale. Must-be-wrong for ‘automatic felony’: need the quid instrument, not vibes.
Path Policy-for-pay (maximal): Joe changed U.S. Ukraine policy for Burisma money. Owes a payment or order trail into Joe; Archer’s social-call frame and multinational Shokin chorus cut against a simple version.
Path Media invention: ‘Burisma hoax’ total. Must-be-wrong: appointment, pay tallies, Kent.
Path Everything-is-Shokin: collapses board pay into prosecutor motive. Must-be-wrong: separate dockets.
Finance imagery: follow the entities and dates. Prefer Hunter/Archer transcripts, Senate document tallies, and Kent’s warning over cable slogans.
Chapter 11: Classroom drill

Students build a three-column sheet: (1) payment facts with entity names; (2) Kent warning quote with date; (3) Archer brand + Dubai ask with his stated limits. Write mustBeWrong for ‘unpaid advisor’ and for ‘Archer proved Joe took the call.’
Ban Ukraine-war slideshows. Ban swapping the claim mid-essay into laptop authenticity or China CEFC — those are sibling nests.
Optional: one paragraph comparing prestige-for-access patterns to other influence cases without false identity.
Output: one-page path statement — appointment, money, warning, brand, adjacency, limits.
Memory: note how 2019 impeachment talk and 2023–24 oversight hearings shifted which documents were mainstream.
Hunter imagery here is the board member under study — caption as such. Prefer Hunter/Archer transcripts, Senate document tallies, and Kent’s warning over cable slogans.
Chapter 12: Method for readers

For every claim: transcript page, payment tally source, State/primary warning, or contemporaneous public remark. Staff reports are investigator products — use their documents, label their characterizations.
Critical path: appointment; company/owner pressure; money tallies; Kent warning; Archer brand; Dubai call-D.C. ask; Shokin adjacency labeled; Joe’s public lines; rival paths; classroom; quality bar; nest gateway → this full guide.
Courthouse imagery marks legal/oversight process without promising a verdict this file does not have.
Nest gateway: /files/people/biden-family/burisma/ with nest.json → /files/biden-family-burisma/. Hub updating: convert Burisma off ‘converting’ when this ships.
Next: laptop-51 → china-biz → coverup-deep. Queue NOT done.
Quality bar: twelve chapters, distinct Commons/PD images, READING synced. No lean page. Prefer Hunter/Archer transcripts, Senate document tallies, and Kent’s warning over cable slogans.
